PINE Learning Through Service

As a precursor to the holiday season - going back as far as we can remember - Pine School students have committed to volunteering at the House of Hope pantry to help organize and stock the very recipient of our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. HoH provides over a million pounds of food each year to those in need. Members of the Upper School Service Club took the reins this year.

"Volunteering at the House of Hope was a truly humbling experience, and allowed us to not only contribute to the community, but provided our Club with a sense of purpose in helping those in need,” shared Junior Becca Bassion.

In other service news, Senior Luke Altschuler, as part of his Capstone Project, used his passion for focusing community service hours with House of Hope as a launching pad to inspire service commitments with PINE Middle Schoolers - specifically members of the National Junior Honor Society. The entire group traveled to House of Hope’s farm in Palm City where students partook in cleaning & packaging apples that would be shipped out to House of Hope food banks as well as planting various herbs in hydroponic towers.

“This trip allowed NJHS students to learn about the impacts of local volunteerism, and hopefully inspired them to volunteer on their own out in our community,” shared Altschuler.
